Hi, I’m Amber. I like big reveals, little surprises and the color yellow. I was raised on the edge of the Pacific Ocean, La’ie Point, Oahu, Hawaii. The child of an elementary school librarian and a fine-artist, I like to think I was pre-destined to carry picture books into adulthood.

In the second grade, after a particularly rough day of fractions, I wrote to Walt Disney Studios asking how to be a “grown-up artist for kids.” They wrote me a long letter back. It said I should go to Pratt Institute for college, and until I was old enough to do that - I should draw as many horses as I could.

I graduated with my BFA from Pratt Institute in Film before going on to work as an artist, designer, and producer for animation, video games, children’s fashion, and theme parks. I still draw horses.

My first illustrated picture book, WILD ABOUT DADS, written by Diana Murray, is out now with Macmillan IMPRINT! My second illustrated book, MY MAGIC WAND, written by Pat Mora, is out now with Lee & Low Books! Find them everywhere books are sold!

I keep photos of myself between the ages of 3-7 in my studio to remind myself who I’m making art for, that the world is mostly good, dreams come true, and mermaids are real.
